As we see the day approaching

Can we truly stop talking about the COVID-19 pandemic now? Perhaps not. The pandemic has been going on for nearly a year with no signs of stopping. Instead, cases are spirally more than ever, and it would appear that some countries have lost control. This means we will be talking about COVID-19 for some time yet.

Some epidemiologists suggest that pandemics usually last for about two years or even longer.  Does it mean we could very well be talking about the pandemic, this time next year? We want to shudder when we hear statements like this, knowing fully well the inconvenience, the uncertainty, the loss, the stress, this pandemic has been waging on the world community. It is not confined to one little area of the globe and that’s why it is called a pandemic – it’s worldwide. The World Health Organization reported the cases now stand at nearly 53-million and rising steadily.

When the Plague of Justinian hit Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire, in 541 CE, it came with vengeance. It was around for a while, but then it disappeared slowly. It returned 800 years later. When it hit Europe in 1347, it was called the Black Death, and it just four years, it killed an estimated 200 million people.

There is no guarantee when we are going to get rid of this virus, even with vaccines. Our health experts have been warning and admonishing the populace on ways to beat this virus. Back then, they didn’t have the medical expertise to know how to fight the plague, which was caused by a single bacterium Yersina Pestis. Today, we have much more resources at our disposal, but we are not using them. Wearing a mask has become political; physical distancing is seen as anti-social, and washing hands has been a hard sell for some people, even before the pandemic. Sad to say, proper hygiene is not on the menu of many people’s busy schedule. I usually observe that when I have to use a public washroom, even in restaurants.

We have been hearing the pleas of public health officials about large gatherings – weddings, parties, bars, and other social activities. People don’t seem to care about their own health much more the health of others. It all boils down to the self-centred or brazenly selfish ways we live as the norm today.

COVID-19 is here to wake us up. Unfortunately, many are still fast asleep. They are in such a deep sleep that it’s going to take a great tumult to wake them up. The people of “The Way” the Truth and the Life know that this just a warming up. People will be jolted out of the comfort zone, deep sleep, or snore, soon. That day is upon us as we enter a time described in Matt 24, as “the beginning of sorrows.”

Hebrews 10:20, “ By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Which day? THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS, THE CHRIST! For more on this subject, download FREE our booklet, WHY CHRIST MUST RETURN.
