Back to Reality

Each year, God’s people celebrate one of God’s appointed times, as indicated in Gen. 1:14 and Leviticus 23. They are known as the annual Sabbaths, or festivals, more commonly called the Holy Days.  The Holy Days of God are not Christmas, Easter or Sunday. They are those “appointed times,” (Hebrew:moed); translated seasons in Gen. 1:14 and other places.

The Feast of Tabernacles, the high point of these yearly celebrations, is a pilgrimage festival that takes us away from our homes for eight days. It pictures the millennial reign of Jesus Christ when He sets up His everlasting kingdom on Earth, hence the need to be away from home or “this world,” so to speak.

When you experience the Feast, you come to a true realization of how much this universe needs the return of Jesus Christ to establish His eternal kingdom. His kingdom will rule with true justice and equity and will rid the world of all sorrow and pain. Once and for all, humanity will experience utopia, an ideal it has been pursuing since the dawn of civilization.  Human history will come to a close, but not until Christ intervenes into the affairs of humanity and establishes His world-ruling kingdom.

After going through this experience of attending the Feast, each year, we start to feel a kind of “dread” in returning to our homes. In essence, we are going back into the real world – we are returning to reality. It’s there again, we are going to experience the daily trials and toils of life in all their forms.  The ills, and all the shortcomings of society, will be rubbing off on us again, at least until another year, when we will have the opportunity to attend again – to have that fellowship and worship experience we long for each year.

We are back to reality again. But what keeps the Christian going is the hope we have in Jesus Christ.  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint, Isaiah 40:31

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, Ephesians 1:18

It is this hope that we all thrive on, despite our daily trials. Not the meaningless hope of this world, but true hope made possible by the shed blood of Jesus Christ for the remission of the sins of humanity. We are back to reality, but it is not going to be like this all the time. Soon, and hopefully soon, we will be living out this true reality when Jesus Christ comes bursting through the clouds with thousands of angels, to establish His everlasting Kingdom.
