Dark clouds are on the horizon right now. The clouds are going to get darker. Whenever the dark clouds are there, we don’t need a meteorologist to tell us it is going to rain or there’s a storm coming.
This grim picture of the dark clouds facing humanity carries no optimism that those clouds will give way to clear and blue skies. The dark clouds bear a picture of impending disaster, one after the other, until they converge into one grand cataclysmic event, which will change the current age.
In essence, the dark clouds lining the horizon will get darker before the clearing. The future of our current civilization is doomed to fall. The change will bring a new civilization, but not at the hands of human doing, rather the hands of the Almighty God, YAHWEH, as His rescue plan for the human race. He knows humanity cannot govern or rescue itself; no matter how they deny, avoid, or refuse to acknowledge this reality, human beings have no choice in their ultimate destiny. Their ultimate destiny is death.
When we die we return to the dust from whence we came. Lifeless, motionless, senseless; our bodies disintegrate and return to the soil. However, we can live again because there is life after death. There are two choices: we either live forever in an everlasting kingdom being prepared by God to be established on a renewed Earth (it’s not about going to heaven as many Christians believe), or we face the lake of fire and brimstone to face our punishment, “the wages of sin is death…” as opposed to, “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ,” Romans 6:23. The choice is yours.
God’s warning message for nations and peoples to repent from their sins has been echoing for hundreds of years. Some have answered while others have ignored God’s call, despite the dark clouds they see building up that will, at some point in the fullness of time, pour out its fury on the evil and wickedness of humanity.
COVID-19, which carries many lessons for humanity, is a wake-up call. It is pointing us, and telling us, those dark clouds are still there. Unfortunately, some people can see those dark clouds. There are others who see them and are still not taking out their umbrellas because they know the rain is coming. They know they will get wet, yet they refuse to do anything about it. On the other hand, there are others, too, who don’t see the clouds at all. They are so busy with the demands of life or they openly denounce even the existence of God, that whether the clouds are there are not, they just cannot see.
Death is all around every day. Since COVID-19, we have been hearing on each newscasts death tolls from around the world. Normally, this is not the case. We hear about the death of a prominent person, a murder, or some unusual circumstances surrounding a death. However, the daily news about deaths caused by the pandemic is another wake up call to remind us of our mortality, temporariness and that “life is a vapour.” Here today, gone tomorrow.
James 4:14, “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow [h]we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” 16But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.”
1 Peter 1:24, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. … And all their strength is like the flowers of the field. The grass dies and the flowers fall.”
Not everyone will fall victim to COVID-19. Nevertheless, there is something else waiting to take your life. Soon, COVID-19 will be history; it will fade from memory and people will return to their normal life as if it never happened, until some other disaster or pestilence comes along, and the imagery of the dark clouds comes as a reminder, that they were still on the horizon waiting to unleash its fury. You can use this opportunity that COVID-19 provides to listen to God’s call and be sure to answer it so that the dark clouds on the horizon will not be solely doom for you, but doom before the boom. – eternal life in the Kingdom of God.
