The choice is yours!

The journey we call life is all about choices. There’s hardly a day that goes by that does not involve making a choice. It could be a choice about what to eat, wear; a choice between going to work or not, buying a house, a car, get married, stay single, open a new bank account, save or spend. The list goes on.

It’s rather interesting that the choices we make determine how we live our lives; what we get and what we receive, be they defeats or triumphs. Many of us have live long enough to learn lessons from the wrong choices and to gain wisdom from the right ones. Ultimately, it’s our choices, which will determine our destiny as human beings, yet many pay scant regard to this reality of life.

The choices can vary between two extremes, a negative or positive, yes or no, indecision or indifference, but for the most part, any decision taken still boils down to a choice. In other words, if you stay neutral on a particular position or choose to remain indifferent on a matter, it is still a choice. There’s no escape from making a choice about which road you will take in this life.

Our maker and Creator of the Universe, in His wisdom, offers us the right choices to make in every facet of life. He is our Maker, and being the one who puts us on this Earth, and gave us intelligence to make choices, wouldn’t you say He has all the authority to tell you what are the right choices in life? The secular world believes this is debatable, but that belief is ludicrous given the fact that we did not create ourselves. Our carnal mind is always at enmity with the Creator (Romans 8:7), hence there’s a tendency to be hostile to any advice He gives for our own good?

YAHWEH, the God of all humanity, the ONLY TRUE and LIVING GOD, tells us from the beginning, “⁵ See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;¹⁶ In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.¹⁷ But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;¹⁸ I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it. ¹⁹ I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:²⁰ That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

God gave this command to Israel first, the ONLY nation that He was dealing with at that time (Amos 3:2; Psalm 147: 19-20). Nevertheless, it applies to the entire human race today.  God simply says He has set before us life and death, good and evil, therefore, choose life! There’s nothing mindboggling about choosing good over evil. One is bad for us, the other is good. Our Maker encompasses everything that is good. He advises us to shun evil at all times, and in so doing, we will understand the importance of choosing the right path to the future. Anyone who chooses evil,  will pay the consequences of what the bible describes as “the second death,” which is final, no coming back to life.
